Normally these days, he plays solo, and has a hyper-aggressive blues style that draws on metal, and even a bit of hip-hop. Yes, he does that with a 12-string acoustic and no band. However, on this album, Berge's style was still evolving. These recordings were made in 1998, and Berge used a band rather than playing solo. The sound was less aggressive than what he now does, but there are clear indications of where he would eventually go. If you start with one of his most recent albums and then listen to this, it will sound tame, but it is still worth hearing. On the other hand, if you are put off by his more recent material because it is too abrasive, this may be a bit more to your liking, although it is still pretty far from traditional blues.
