1986's Warriors of the Night was the debut album from Pennsylvania-based metal band X-Caliber. The band was clearly influenced by Iron Maiden and the rest of the NWOBHM scene, and their sound fit squarely in the emerging American power/heavy metal scene.
Warriors of the Night is a really solid album, though the cheese factor is pretty high. You either get cheesy metal anthems like "Warriors of the World" and "The Sword" or cheesy love songs like "Tell My Why" and "Don't Say Goodbye." The metal anthems are awesome in that pure `80s glory of metal kind of way. The love songs are pretty terrible. Overall though, there's a lot to like about X-Caliber's sound.
Unfortunately, Warriors of the Night was X-Caliber's only release. It's not an essential album by any means, but serious collectors of cult `80s heavy metal will definitely want to check out this gem.
